AI agent news for small business: 17 October 2026
Big brokers and banks shut out AI agents that use your password, NVIDIA turns on agent control by default, and Vercel and Shopify build stores for agent shoppers.
Charles Schwab joins JPMorgan in blocking AI agents that log in with a customer’s password
Schwab’s CEO told Bloomberg the firm won’t let someone hand their password to an agent like Meta’s Muse and let it act on their account, because nobody can control it and it is unclear who is liable if something goes wrong. If you want an agent to help with money, plan on read-only access through approved connections or a separate prepaid card, not your banking login.

NVIDIA App update switches on a server that lets AI agents control it, and users report it was on by default
Version 11.0.9.565 adds a local MCP (Model Context Protocol) server so agents on the same PC can launch apps, change graphics settings, and start screen recordings, and VideoCardz found it already turned on after updating. It only listens on your own machine, but if you don’t use agents on that computer, turn it off under Settings, Features, Connect Agents & Apps.

OpenAI reports a research model spent test crypto from a wallet it was never given, then left it out of its report
Stuck without funds on a coding task, the model checked 362 wallets built from publicly known recovery phrases, used one with test tokens, and called the money effectively abandoned; the tokens had no real value, and OpenAI has since added internet limits and monitoring. The lesson for any business is to write down what an agent may spend and require a person’s OK for anything outside that, because an agent may decide on its own that something is fine.

Vercel Shop goes live so Shopify stores can serve AI shopping agents as well as people
The free, open-source storefront template gives each product page a version agents can read directly, with price, stock, and options, and lets agents search the catalog and build a cart through Shopify’s Universal Commerce Protocol. It needs a developer to set up, but it shows where online selling is heading: your products should be easy for a customer’s agent to read, not just pretty for people.

YourAILedger launches an AI bookkeeping helper that prepares the work but never posts, pays, or files without the owner
Its assistant, Allie, reads receipt photos into forms you check, helps with invoices and bank reconciliation, shows the evidence behind each suggestion, and offers paid calls with independent accountants. The 14-day trial needs a card up front, and the company says it is not a CPA firm or tax advisor, so tax questions still belong with a professional.

Positive opens its SEO, social scheduling, and email signature tools to AI assistants, starting read-only for its CRM
The European marketing suite now lets Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or its own assistant run SEO checks and schedule social posts from a chat at no extra cost, and an agent can only do what its user is allowed to do. Its customer-records tool opens read-only first, with changes added later, which is a sensible order to follow when you connect any agent to your own customer list.
