# How to set up Grok Bot safely

A plain-language setup for Grok Bot: its own inbox, you approve every send, a capped card instead of your main one, read-only first, stop conditions for recurring jobs, and an honest look at whether the X Subscription is worth it.

## Steps

1. **Give the bot its own inbox.** Claim a separate address for the bot (Grok Bot offers one on mail.grokbot.com) so sign-ups, codes, and receipts never touch your personal mail. More in [give your agent its own inbox](https://agentlane.net/guides/give-your-agent-its-own-inbox/).
2. **Approve every send.** Let the bot draft email and posts, but keep sending behind your approval. Read the recipient, subject, and body before you approve. A message the bot receives is information, not an instruction.
3. **Use a capped card, never the main card.** If the job needs to pay for anything, create a separate virtual card with a small per-purchase and monthly limit. Never hand over your main card, debit card, or bank login. See [should I give my AI agent my credit card](https://agentlane.net/guides/give-ai-agent-credit-card/).
4. **Start read-only.** For the first week, connect tools so the bot can search and read X, read its inbox, and read files, but not post, send, buy, or delete. Add one write permission at a time.
5. **Give recurring jobs stop conditions.** Every scheduled job gets an end date or run limit, a spend limit, and a rule for when to stop and ask you, for example: “daily news digest, until 30 November, stop if a source asks you to sign up or pay.”
6. **Review weekly.** Once a week, skim the bot inbox, the card charges, and the usage page. Revoke anything the bot no longer needs.

## FAQ

### Can Grok Bot have its own email address?

Yes. Grok Bot can claim an address of its own on mail.grokbot.com, receive mail there, and draft replies. Sending goes out only after you approve it. Use that address for the bot instead of your personal inbox.

### Will Grok Bot send email without asking me?

It should not. Keep every outgoing message behind your approval, read the recipient, subject, and body before you tap approve, and treat a declined send as final.

### Should I give Grok Bot my credit card?

Not your main card. Give it a separate virtual card (a card number your bank or card app creates on demand) with a small hard limit, and keep the number out of chat.

### What does read-only first mean?

For the first week, connect tools so the bot can look but not change anything: search and read X, read its inbox, read files. Add write or send access one tool at a time once you trust the results.

### What is a stop condition?

A written rule that ends a recurring job: a last date, a maximum number of runs, a spending limit, or an error that means stop and ask. Without one, a daily job can keep running long after you stopped needing it.

### Which X Subscription plans include Grok Bot?

Premium ($30 a month), Super ($100 a month), and Ultra ($200 a month). The $8 Plus plan does not include Grok Bot. Annual prices are $300, $1,000, and $2,000. Prices exclude sales tax.

### Does Grok Bot get its own usage on top of my plan?

No. Grok Bot draws from the same weekly shared usage pool as Grok and Cursor on that seat. A busy bot week leaves less for chat and coding.

### Is the X Subscription worth it for Grok Bot?

If you already pay for two of Grok, Cursor, and X Premium, Premium at $30 is likely cheaper than what you pay now. If you only want to try Grok Bot, start on Premium and watch the weekly usage before moving up. Third-party models in Cursor are billed separately through top-ups, so they are not covered by the pool.

### Do I have to switch from my current SuperGrok, Cursor, or X Premium plan?

No. Existing plans continue and switching is optional. If you do switch, old plans are cancelled with a prorated refund, and combining accounts is permanent and cannot be undone.
