AI agent news for small business: 22 October 2026

Anthropic opens Claude Duet for small business owners, Walmart lets shopping agents buy within set limits, and Stripe lets agents pay invoices from a business account.

  1. Anthropic opens a waitlist preview of Claude Duet, a proactive agent built for professionals and small business owners

It sends a morning brief from your connected apps, checks them every few hours, and works on tasks like invoice reminders in QuickBooks or Stripe, but it shows you exactly what it's about to do before it sends a message, pays, signs or deletes anything. It's for US Pro and Max subscribers by waitlist, and its background checks count against your plan's usage limits, so start by connecting only the apps you actually want watched.

  2. Walmart opens an Agent Gateway for AI shopping agents and plans Agent Profiles with per-agent spending limits

Coming in the next month, each agent gets its own profile inside your Walmart account, with purchases shown separately and either approval on every order or a limit you set, such as $50, $100 or $200. Agents never see your card number, which is the setup to look for anywhere you let an agent buy supplies.

  3. Stripe launches Treasury for agents, so ChatGPT or Claude can check balances, pay invoices and move money in a Stripe business account

Businesses choose which accounts an agent can see, whether it can only read or also act, and when moving money needs a person's approval; agent spending limits are due in the coming weeks. A safe first step is the one Stripe's example founder uses: a read-only morning report on balances, failed payments and refunds, with every payment still approved by you.

  4. PhoneUse rents real and cloud smartphones to AI agents so they can use apps that have no API

An agent such as Claude or Cursor can tap through apps like Instagram or read text-message codes on a phone, with cloud Android phones at $0.024 a minute and a real iPhone at $89 a month. Many apps limit automated use on purpose, so read an app's rules before pointing an agent at your business account, and never let it read login codes for accounts that hold money.

  5. Breken launches a tool that runs your app with simulated users and agents to find bugs before customers do

In Breken's own benchmark it caught 76 of 235 real bugs that had reached users, about twice what a coding agent found by reading the code alone, though the company ran the test itself. If an AI helped write your app's payments or billing code, testing it while it runs with real data is worth it; usage is prepaid from a $25 minimum.
